Hack #1: Remind Yourself of the Biblical Truth Regarding How God Truly Sees You
God sees us (aka as someone who is priceless, worth loving, and righteous through our acceptance of Jesus’s death on the cross) never changes.
Jeremiah 31:3 says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
Zephaniah 3:17: “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Isaiah 54:10: “For even if the mountains walk away and the hills fall to pieces, My love won’t walk away from you, my covenant commitment of peace won’t fall apart.” The God who has compassion on you says so.
This is a God who knows you’re not perfect, but still loves you tremendously.
Perfection doesn’t matter to Him; just that you’re His. In a safe, healthy way.
Even if you’re still getting to know Him, or don’t feel His presence too acutely at the moment, He’s still there. Loving and rejoicing over you.
Psalm 139:13-14 says “for you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
And, as it says in Luke 12:7, the God of the universe finds you so valuable that He knows the number of hairs on your head.
If people’s words or actions are causing you to doubt your true identity…ask yourself, do they know you as well as the God who created you? And knows the number of hairs on your head?
Answer: not even close.
Note: In addition to reading this post, and the verses like the ones I mentioned, consider finding specific music to listen to that also speaks to this, for example. So that it’s consistently feeding into your life. And have it as a go-to whenever you’re feeling this way.
Hack #2: Proclaim the Biblical Truth That It’s First and Foremost About How God Sees You
Above all else, our identity - and thus our confidence - needs to primarily come from who we are in God.
Not from the world.
Not from how well we think we’re doing that day.
And not from the lies Satan wants us to believe. (Which usually focuses on things like trying to convince us that we’re not good enough. Or that God doesn’t care.)
In other words, we’re God’s royal Daughters. We’re sisters and best friends with Jesus.
We’ve been purchased back into God’s closest relational fold via the price of Jesus dying on the cross.
That’s what our identity is rooted in: who we belong to.
And as we just looked at, who we belong to (aka God) is Someone who always loves us unconditionally; who is always with us and will never leave us; and who considers us priceless and immensely precious.
Now, how do you proclaim that?
You repeat it to yourself.
You find music to listen to.
You create or buy an artwork to hang on your wall as a reminder.
You reach out to your trusted, biblically legit community.
This is why I have my RedBubble store with its custom designs. I want you to be able to express your identity and declare it - because we need that.
And whether you buy from my store or not, I want you to proclaim who you are.
But, you might ask, how do I do that when I don’t feel like I’m that identity? Well, that brings me to my next point/hack.
Hack #3: Act Like You’re Good Enough Even When You Feel Differently
Here’s a little - but very powerful - secret to keep in mind: actions help us to align with beliefs.
Often, we think it’s the other way around. That we first need to truly understand, process, and accept something before we can take action.
But the truth is actually the opposite. Taking action, even when we don’t feel aligned mentally or emotionally, actually helps to create that new identity or experience.
Think about it from a secular perspective. If you decide to become an architect, you don’t wait until you feel like one before changing your college major to become one. It’s through action - changing your major, signing up for classes, doing the work, and in this case formally graduating - that you end up feeling like an architect.
And then you get your first job, and your feeling increases.
But if you didn’t take those steps, and waited to feel like an architect before moving forward, you would never make any progress.
The same concept applies here. If you want to feel good enough for God, then start putting actions in place to help you make real progress.
Listening to this episode is one such action. As in diving into the verses I’ve covered and using these hacks.
But, as you go through life, you also need to be conscious of your choices and actions.
Where can you begin, even in a small way, to act as if the God of the universe loves you unconditionally, and that your identity is rooted in Him?
Can you listen to different music? Can you remove some relationships that aren’t healthy? Can you invest in new ones that are?
What about how you treat yourself? Can you add something special to your self-care routine - like a monthly massage or manicure - in the name of being a woman who loves herself because God loves her?
Big life decisions can be part of this as well. But I believe in starting points that are realistic and doable. So ask yourself, what fits that bill in my life today?
And as you take new types of actions, you’ll find that your mindsets and beliefs will start to change to align with those actions. Plus, your confidence will grow, etc.
