Feeling Too Broken for God’s Love? Here’s How to Find Healing and Hope

1. Rest in the Truth that God’s Desire is to Heal – Not Harm

  • I realize that this might be hard to hear or accept right now, especially if:

    • You’ve been taught a version of God that doesn’t align with that statement

    • You’ve been in a very dark place, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually

  • Yet the biblical truth is that this is a core trait of God’s character

  • We see this in the Bible, especially throughout the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Jesus healed numerous diseases, cast out demons, and was sensitive to people’s emotional pain and trauma.

  • However, God is recognized as a healing God throughout the Bible:

    • Jeremiah 30:17 (NLT): “I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,” says the Lord. “For you are called an outcast—‘Jerusalem for whom no one cares.’”

    • 1 Peter 2:24 (NLT): “He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”

    • Isaiah 40:29 (NLT): “He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”

    • Psalm 147:3 (NLT): “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.”

  • Friend, God doesn’t just heal illnesses. He cares about your heart and inner state as well.

  • This is something I’ve experienced over and over again in my 20+ year relationship with God.

  • God has never led me into a harmful or painful situation with the intent of hurting me – physically, emotionally, or otherwise. He has only ever walked besides me, protected me, and ensured that what I experienced made me stronger.

  • Along the way, He’s brought consistent healing and hope.

  • Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT) says: For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

2. Remember that You Have an Enemy Feeding You Lies

  • There is someone who doesn’t want you to find or believe in the truth of God’s character: Satan, our spiritual enemy.

  • The Bible clearly tells us that Satan (aka the devil) is real–and he is actively working against God’s chosen people.

  • For example:

    • John 8:44 (NLT) says, “[Satan] was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

    • In John 10:10 (NLT), Jesus says, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

    • And in 1 Peter 5:8 (NLT), we’re warned to: “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”

  • In essence, Satan is a master of lies. And being that he’s been at this for thousands of years, he’s very good at what he does.

  • He also tends to use the same methods: misinformation, planting thoughts in your head, trying to thwart God’s plans, oppressing women, etc.

  • Some of the thoughts that have been playing on repeat in your head are likely Satan’s handiwork, however they ended up there. Especially if those thoughts center on ideas such as God doesn’t care about you (or your pain) or that you’re too broken to experience God’s love.

  • Friend, I’m not saying this to scare you or make you think that Satan is more powerful than God – because he isn’t

  • What I’m pointing out here is that there is a spiritual battle for the souls of men and women. Which includes you, friend.

  • The last thing Satan wants is for you to know God, have a close relationship with Him, and realize your true identity and potential. Not to mention experience freedom, hope, and healing.

  • So the things you’ve been wrestling with? The dark place you’ve been in? The hurt you’ve been carrying? Those things aren’t a result of an uncaring God. Or you not being “good enough”for God.

  • Those things are the result of having a spiritual enemy and living in a broken world filled with broken people.

  • And the good news is, you don’t need to stay in this place. In fact, just by choosing to skim this blog, you’re already taking a huge step in the right direction.

3. Even Small Steps Lead to Hope and Healing

  • Our modern culture is very good at making us think that results are always instantaneous

  • Especially if we power through with big, bold steps.

  • Yet that’s not how God works

  • The world’s way often sacrifices our wellness – mentally, emotionally, physically. It also doesn’t grant us the time and space to do the internal work that God wants to do – such as heal deep wounds or stop old mindsets.

  • God, however, cares more about our overall health than anyone else. And He’ll often take things in small – yet strategic – steps because that’s what leads to the most hope and healing.

  • So, friend, if you’ve been trying your best to move in the right direction…to find clarity about who God is and why He isn’t acting the way you want Him to…don’t discount those steps. After all, they led you here right?

  • It doesn’t matter how big the steps are…it just matters that you’re on the right road. (God will take care of the rest.)

  • Not sure what your next step should be?

  • I highly recommend that you take my quiz. It will provide a personalized next step when it comes to building a foundation of biblical truth, growing your relationship with God, and experiencing His hope and healing.
