In this episode, I share more about how this truth has played out in my own life — and the steps you can take to make it real in yours.
God Created Adam and Eve for Relationship
1️⃣ God created human beings in His image.
Genesis 1:27 (NLT): “So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
The God of the Universe created man and woman in His image – which means we are designed to reflect God’s character.
God didn’t create humans to be mindless minions or to rule cruelly over them.
No, God (who is holy – meaning 100% without any sin or wickedness) created man and woman to be a reflection of His love and goodness.
2️⃣ God was present with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
God desires relationship.
Genesis 3:8 (NLT): “When they heard the sound of God strolling in the garden in the evening breeze, the Man and his Wife hid in the trees of the garden, hid from God.” [Italics added.]
Sometimes (outside of the Bible), God is portrayed as distant, cold, and harsh. As if He’s scowling down at us, just waiting for us to sin or make a mistake.
But that’s not who God is at all.
From the very beginning, God has desired closeness with us.
Even after Adam and Eve brought sin into the world, instantly fracturing our relationship with God.
3️⃣ God always had a plan to restore our relationship with Him.
God is holy – which means He is 100% without any sin or evil or wickedness.
So when sin entered the world, this affected our relationship with God – as sin and wickedness cannot exist in God’s holy presence.
As humans, we are completely incapable of fixing that situation. There’s nothing we can do – no amount of works, no level of perfection or performance – that can make us right before God.
As Romans 3:23 (NLT) says, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
There needed to be a way for us to be seen as holy (meaning without sin) even though we’re sinners.
But it had to be something God provided.
This is why God sent Jesus to die in our place, for our sins, upon the cross. So that, by seeing us through the blood of Jesus, our sins can be forgiven and we can be seen as holy and acceptable before God.
1 Corinthians 6:11 (NLT): “Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT): “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”
💯 God had this rescue plan from the very beginning.
In Genesis 3:14-15 (NLT), God says this to the serpent/Satan: “And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”
The “He” God the Father is referring to is Jesus – who would be conceived by the Holy Spirit and born from a virgin woman named Mary.
This dialogue takes place right after God confronts Adam and Even about their sin.
Even though it would be a very long time before Jesus would be born into human history, God immediately had a rescue mission in place.
Because He wasn’t going to stand for us spending eternity separated from Him.
